Portraits

I find  great joy in portraying my friends and aquaintances in colourful oil paintings. Sometimes it is a rather playful atmosphere, sometimes it is serene and magical.

Depending on the character of the person, I change my stroke and colours, my technique and style of painting.

Sometimes I will meet someone on the street and invite them to my studio, where we have a sitting. The spontaneity of these encounters is visible in the finished work.

In some instances I also paint from memory or from what I have heard about someone. The portrait of Frida Kahlo for example was created from my impression of her character, as a comission for the Nationaltheater Mannheim Kevin O´Day Ballet company.
